Resolving the Dystopia

In this novel clearly there are many problems in the society, but most importantly women can't do or say anything without being told to do so. This is the number one problem for me because I am a female and I wouldn't want to go through what any of the women of the society did. A lot of women in their society were not able to have children so ofcourse the main target would be women. That was the society's goal to keep having children. In my opinion women should not be stripped of their rights. Women should be able to do what they want and how they want to. Offered in chapter 16 was basically ordered to try to have a child with the man of the house. Well all of the handmaids had to because that is what they are for just to give a new life to the society. None of them had any family with them because it was taking from them. To solve this the government in charge should not pass laws like that ever again and if that was a problem maybe the women who like to have children can stay to have them. Believe it or not some women actually agree on the society's rules. But the women who don't should be able to leave and go on with their lives up to how they want. Maybe that's not the best plan to get back into a functional and fair society but women don't want to have to bear children when they don´t want to.

  1. I agree with you I feel like their freedom is taken away from then, and that they should be used only to bear children. When you go back to the fourth or six chapter I think it is were she describes the way that they dresses and how they had to wear those dress for example the handmaid had to wear red while the ones that could not bear children had to wear blue. Right here you can see the way that they didn't have the freedom to do what they wanted or were what they wanted. I think that for something like this it would be best for a rebellion against the government because in the begin it told you have it became that why, and how they overpowered the government that was there before. So maybe if that happens again everything can change with the help of nick and other who are against what is currently happening. I strongly agree with you that women shouldn't be stripped out of their rights because in order for a fair society we all deserve freedom. If our plan were to work then there is a possibility that things would go back to normal but if it doesn't then things will get harder for women. A society can't work if their is no freedom what this society needs is freedom for all.

  2. I completely agree, Alesiah! As a female, myself, I took this to somewhat of a personal level. I hope that this society that we live in never becomes of this! I really liked how you connected it to your life, and I think that made your post more enjoyable! I really connected and enjoyed where you wrote, "In my opinion women should not be stripped of their rights. Women should be able to do what they want and how they want to." If a man is able to do what he wants, when he wants, and have nobody stop him, why should a women have to worry? Especially ONLY due to the fact of their gender. I am completely vexed when actually thinking of how far the Women have come within the past couple of centuries, yet we are still not equal to the opposite gender. :(

  3. I agree that a big issue was that women were deprived from their rights, and they were not treated fairly. I believe that this is the reason why the dystopia began originally. The women were the people who had the most power to control the future, but the government took that away and forced them to follow the rules they had created. This definitely would not be good if this was to become of our society. I agree that the government should not be forcing women to have children and not allowing them to keep them. They should be able to have kids on their own, and those who cannot have kids could adopt or have a surrogate mother. I believe no one should be forced into anything.
